03 Mar Freezer Smoothies
Oh gosh, I don’t know what things are like at your house in the morning, but it can be a nut house here! While I’m thrilled that all of my boys are home right now, it sure has created kitchen chaos. Making smoothies for 5 or 6 or 7, depending on the day should be no big deal, right? Well, if there was ever a competition for making a kitchen disaster, I’m pretty sure I would win. Making a mess apparently is what I’m destined to do. That doesn’t mean that I’m without hope. I am ever on the lookout for making my life a little more organized, a little more calm, a little more efficient…..
I had a sudden revelation this afternoon that I could make our morning routine a whole lot easier if I had all of our smoothie ingredients “good to go” in freezer bags. How great would it be to have everything measured, peeled and cut – only needing to be dumped in a blender with appropriate fluid? Yay me!
So, as we adapt, and adapt, and adapt to the ever changing cast of characters that grace our table and our lives, we will give this a go!
This is one of the popular combinations in our house:
Green Machine Smoothie
4 cups spinach
1 cup chopped cucumber (peeled if not organic)
1 lemon (peeled, seeded and chopped)
2 cups mango chunks
2 stalks celery chopped (approx 1 cup)
2 tablespoons protein powder of choice
2 teaspoons High on Health “Turbo Boost” (spirulina, chia, hemp blend)
1 teaspoon bee pollen
2 tablespoons hemp seeds
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 banana – chopped
Place ingredients in a freezer bag, and store in freezer until ready to use.
To make smoothie: Add contents of freezer bag with 1 litre of water to blender. Blend until well incorporated. Will make 5 or 6 500 ml smoothies. Enjoy!
