27 Feb Super Quick Hemp & Smoked Paprika Topping
For a significant portion of the year, I can be found in gymnasiums across North America cheering on my boys as they play basketball and other sports. I simply love this. The only down-side is keeping well nourished on the road. Scheduling can make it tricky, and I really don’t like most “fast food” options, not to mention the expense. Given the recent publicity of the well-known fast food chain Subway using ingredients in their bread that are also found in yoga mats (yes, you read this correctly), there’s even more urgency to find healthy options.
Enter the beloved avocado. Avocados are truly nature’s ultimate “fast food”. I love taking them with me, and they’re also easy to purchase as most grocery stores carry them year-round now.
Just this past weekend as I was leaving to go to Collingwood for Dan and Ben’s tournament, I realized I was out of “salad booster” by Living Intentions. In a pinch, I threw together some hemp hearts, smoked paprika and mountain salt. This was just delicious sprinkled on the avocado. The addition of hemp hearts also increases the protein, fibre, magnesium, calcium, plant-based omega 3 fats, and iron content.
This topping would also be delicious on salads, cooked or raw vegetables, or anytime you wish to add a little savoury goodness to your food.
